White Mountain Central Railroad Steam Locomotive

Steam Loco Woodstock Lumber Co. #5


This Shay was built by Lima Locomotive Works at Lima Ohio in Dec 1917 as builder no. 2958.   It is a 2 truck 50 ton geared logging locomotive.  It was bought new by the Woodstock Lumber Co. at Woodstock, New Hampshire in 1919.  It was used as a switcher in their yard.  The Woodstock Lumber Co. became the Franconia Paper Co.  The Clarks bought the locomotive from the Franconia Paper Co. in 1951-52.  The Shay is not currently operational,  and is usually locked away in the shed.   She is brought out into the daylight for the "Railroad Days" weekend.
